The Bulldogs can drive 5-4-5.

Vacaville High School's football team amassed a whopping 545 yards on the ground en route to a convincing 55-20 win at Fairfield Friday night. Jimmy Hines led the way by rushing for 270 yards and three touchdowns in the Monticello Empire League opener.

"The offensive line had a great push and we did our jobs," Hines said. "We shouldn't have let them score. We should've had a shutout." Vacaville scored on four of its first five possessions for a 28-0 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs had 21 of their 27 second-half points in the fourth quarter.

Fairfield scored three times on big plays, spoiling what Vacaville hoped would be a near-perfect league debut.

"We started out well, but it was a long football game and they gave us everything we expected them to," Vacaville head coach Mike Papadopoulos said. "That's a solid football team, and they caused us some problems."

Hines had touchdown runs of 28, 50 and 24 yards. Quincy Forte rushed for 92 yards and scored on runs of three and 36 yards. Hudson Buck rushed for 78 yards and had a 19-yard touchdown run. Roman Hauser added a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs.

Keith Leenders converted five extra-point kicks. Quarterback Tyler Irwin completed a 2-point conversion pass to Buck.

Fairfield scored its first touchdown in the third quarter when the Falcons blocked a Vacaville field goal attempt and Ta'lon McKinley raced 70 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Tra'mayne Bondurant connected with Craig Bailey on an 80-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Bondurant also had a 33-yard touchdown run in the final quarter.

Bondurant threw for 146 yards, but was intercepted twice as Malique Earl and Forte came away with picks. Those interceptions led to two of Vacaville's scores on the first three drives of the game.

Fairfield rushed for 77 yards, though Bondurant spent most of the time trying to scramble from Bulldog defenders. Brock Hekking, Nate Berumen and Fernando Rodriguez were among those having big tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Irwin completed just three passes for 38 yards, but with the backfield rushing like it was, passing wasn't necessary.

Vacaville (5-1 overall) plays at Armijo next Friday.
